Welcome to Pocket Digital Camera
Hello, and welcome to Pocket Digital Camera. Here you will find pocket digital cameras, or 'point-and-shoot' digital cameras (as well as DSLRs) listed from all major manufacturers. Although some listings are auctions of used cameras, which is, of course, an excellent way to save a large sum of money, you will also find new pocket digital cameras listed on the site.
With the current state of digital camera technology so advanced, a relatively inexpensive pocket digital camera can provide even an amateur photographer the means for capturing very impressive images. As pixel counts increase, so too does the optics, firmware, and other imaging electronics of these cutting-edge devices. No longer is it necessary to spend a great deal of money to get nearly professional results.
If you're wanting a pocket digital camera for the quick 'snapshot' for using only online (emailing, website posting, etc.) you'll probably not need an expensive, very high pixel camera. Of course if you need to retain good imaging in larger photo sizes, say a 9x12 and above, then you will want a digital camera with a somewhat higher pixel count.
However, we highly recommend you know exactly how you'll be using your digital camera. It's frustrating seeing someone spend a large sum of money on a DSLR camera only to use it for quick snapshots of photos that will primarily be used to post online, or maybe for emailing, use in digital picture frames, and archiving to DVD. You can purchase a relatively inexpensive point-and-shoot model that will satisfy these requirements very nicely.
This amateur photographer still uses a Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital Elph regularly and absolutely loves it. It is 'only' 7,1 MP, with a 3x optical zoom, but it captures more data than I'll ever need, does video nicely, and is so small I can take it practically everywhere I go. It won't compete with a high dollar DSLR, but it captures good quality photos and videos. Oh, you can also buy a lot more camera than my little PowerShot for well under $200 - pretty impressive!
